Background:
Ferndown Upper School is a co-educational, non-denominational comprehensive school for students aged 13 to 19 years. The school was opened in 1972 in purpose-built accommodation, the final phase of which was completed in 1984. Since then the school has invested in a number of building projects, to enhance provision. The accommodation facilities include 13 science laboratories and a computer suite, eight specialist workshops, design and technology, including electronics and graphics as well as traditional materials and a computer suite. A wide range of activities form a vital part of the life of the school offering opportunities for both competition and cooperation. These activities include athletics, basketball, cross-country, football, gymnastics, hockey, volleyball, swimming and trampolining. The school aims to provide a broad and comprehensive education, valuing all forms of achievement and aiming to develop confident, independent learners and responsible citizens.
