Background:

The school was opened in 1978 and is situated on a pleasant site in a beautiful part of the county. It forms part of the Ferndown Pyramid of schools, a group of related first and middle schools and an upper school. Most children come to the school from St Mary's and Oakhurst in West Moors, Three Legged Cross First and St Ives First. The school offers superb facilities such as pleasant classrooms and practical areas, two science laboratories, rooms for home education, craft, design and technology and art, a music and drama studio, a large resource centre/library and a hall. A further teaching block with three new classrooms and large open-plan area for information technology was recently opened. Outside there are pleasant patio and hard paved areas, a large netted area with three tennis courts, netball and basketball courts, a field, conservation and environmental study areas and a butterfly reserve. A second field is ten minutes walk away. Two weeks in the summer term are devoted to outdoor education with day visits for Years 5 and 6, the opportunity of a residential visit for Year 7 and mini enterprise for Year 8. The school offers a range of after-school clubs including football, gymnastics, netball, athletics, cricket, drama and music. There is a Parent Teacher and Friends Association, which raises funds for the school and acts as a voice for parental views. The school aims to provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment where every child can achieve best through a wide and challenging range of learning opportunities.
