Background:

Situated in a residential part of Wimbourne. Opened in 1973 and recently extended. The present accommodation comprises seven classrooms, library, large hall, Information and Communications Technology suite with networked PCs, also connected to class-based computers. Internet access to all PCs. Set in extensive grounds with wooded environmental studies area and two large sports fields. A kindergarten on the premises provides pre-school education for children from age three. A school community 'based on love and care, in which each child can develop his/her potential to the full.' Named top school in Dorset for examination results at Key Stage 2; provides 'broad, balanced and enriched curriculum.' Strong music tradition which includes provision of extensive instrumental tuition, a large school orchestra and participation in the Voices Programme to develop singing throughout the school. Extra curricular activities include French, art, maths, ICT and gardening clubs run by teachers and parents. Sports include netball, football, cricket and short tennis; residential trips for all Key Stage 2 children. Catchment area is very wide; a high proportion of children are Catholic, although the school accepts other Christian denominations. 'Parents are extremely supportive'; strong parish and community links and active fundraising for specific charities. Some year groups are over-subscribed. Children have donated soft toys for poverty-stricken youngsters in Central America.
