Background:
Founded in 1842 when land was given to the village to build a school and a church, Marshwood remained as just a main schoolroom and schoolhouse until 1931. Between 1986 and 1987 the school was 'completely stripped and repaired' and now is an 'attractive warm environment' to work in. It is a small school, organised into two main classes where all areas of the national curriculum are taught. As well as classrooms, the school has a computer network system, and internal connections in each class. The school has 'limited' outdoor and indoor facilities for physical education, but concentrates on developing ball skills suitable for a range of sports. Marshwood reaches out to and 'welcomes an interaction with the wider community' through charity work, social awareness and visiting speakers and is also part of the 'Lyme Regis Cluster'. 'The school has a friendly family atmosphere in which emphasis is placed upon personal responsibility and consideration for others'.
